In rural Sunrise, Illinois, waitress Linda Bronco wants her son Mike to go to college, but all summer after high school, his dim friend Lenny Lake leads Mike into trouble. Their life of crime soon involves Linda, too, as they need money for a lawyer (Lenny's charlatan grandpa Ron, whose trophy wife is the ex-girlfriend of Brian, Linda's latest lover). When Ron fails Mike, Linda decides to send Mike to private college, so she needs more money. After Brian gives them a tip on cash at Mr. Snack, a fast food joint, it's robbery time. Then there's Suzi and Suzy, young women who work at Mr. Snack and have their eyes on Mike and Lenny. Is there a ticket out of the trailer park?

A staunch professional executive (William Devane) and his wife (Patty Duke) coerce their rebellious teens (Kaj-Erik Eriksen, Natasha Melnick) and their older sister (Elisabeth Rosen) to take a plane trip for a weekend in the mountains. The older sister does not make it to the plane in time and the family leaves without her. Their small private plane then develops trouble and crashes away from any people. This forces the group to band together to survive the wilderness conditions, including an avalanche.

Payback
Val Resnick and Porter, two small time bandits, hit a Chinese gang together and manage to get $140,000. But Val Resnick needs 130 grand alone to buy himself back into his syndication. So, Val turns on Porter together with Porter's wife Lynn, who kills him with two shots in the back. But Porter survives and half a year later, he is back, seeking his share of $70,000. When he finally finds Val, Porter quickly learns that he has to go much further up the ladder in order to get his money from the guys who have it: The syndication. Working alone can't be realized any more, so Porter teams up with his flame and previous boss Rosie, a very exclusive prostitute. Together, they now start playing the teams against each other.

The FBI enlists the help of Sorenson's daughter Katherine, who is also a respected scientist, with the hope she can convince her father to surrender the missile silo. Katherine's research supports her father's thesis. She enlists the help of Paul, an FBI agent assigned to keep her under guard, in her quest to convince the scientific community of the imminent threat to the planet.
