Brian: The whole irony of "The Sweater Song" is that people sing along and don't catch what he's talking about: a relationship break-up.
Brian: If someone's paying attention it doesn't worry me, no matter what the reason is. We're nerds compared to a typical rock band - none of us are big drinkers or partiers. We're not concerned with picking up girls every night. We like romantic endeavours and studying things on the road.
Rivers: I've sold two million records, I've toured around the world singing in front of thousands of people. And there's a girl sitting across from me in English 101, and I just look up at her every once in a while and put my head back down. I'm still a pathetic fool. No matter how many records I sell, I'm never going to be in Kiss.
Rivers: So we keep making all these wacky decisions and breaking the rules. Now [the label people] have no idea how to deal with me, 'cause I'm insane
Rivers: (At a Concert) We've got people dancing in the aisles and shit. Girls making out with each other. This rules!
Rivers: (at a concert about to play "El Scorcho") This song is in the key of Espanol.
Rivers: Alright… we're gonna play one more song, then we're gonna leave… then you guys are gonna cheer, and we're gonna come back and play another song.
Brian: (About changing up the set list) We try to not let things get too stagnant 'cause if we're not excited playing it, then it's gonna come across. So we try to challenge ourselves and play songs we haven't played in a long time.
Rivers: (about writing the hit song "Say it Ain't So") I was strumming those chords and just scatting some melodies and lyrics over it and then the Chorus came out "Say it Ain't So" okay so there, I have the music and this one lyric "Say it Ain't So", Now what am I saying that to? and uh, somehow I must have made the connection to this incident when I was in high school of coming home and seeing a bottle of beer in the fridge. For most people that wouldn't be that much of a cause for distress, but I had it stuck in my mind that my parents split up when I was four because my dad had become an alcoholic. So now I see a beer in my fridge suddenly out of no where. It's not mine, It's not my brothers, It's not my Mom's, It's gotta be my step-Dad's. So this means therefore that he's becoming an alcoholic, and my parents are gonna split up. This is bad. So I wrote the song about that moment of seeing that beer. It was only many years later that my mother told me, "What are you talking about? Your dad wasn't an alcoholic. He didn't drink." I was kind of embarassed at that point, and had to apologize to everyone concerned.
Rivers: (About how he feels when fans ask for another Pinkerton) I can't control what I write. I have to accept whatever comes. If its not what someone wants to hear, then at least they can agree with me to love Pinkerton and part as friends.
