Ty: (Speaking on the terrible devastation of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.) If you lose the sounds coming out of New Orleans, you lose part of the American language. I realize we're just a TV show, but we feel we have a real obligation to let these people know we haven't forgotten about them, that we'll do whatever we can to make things right.
Ty: (After going to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina) I was not prepared for what I saw down there. When you see it firsthand, it looks like Hiroshima.
Ty has won two Emmys-one in 2005, and one in 2006, and both for Outstanding Reality Program with 'Emtreme Makeover: Home Edition'.
On January 15, 2005, Ty had to have emergency surgery for acute appendicitis while working in Atlanta on a house for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. After the surgery, he continued to work on the project through email and phone calls. Just before the unveiling of the house, Ty surprised everyone by arriving at the site by ambulance and helping finish the house in time.
Ty lived with his mom, his stepdad, and his older brother when he was growing up.
Ty grew up in Atlanta, Georgia.
