8/4/2004 - Cincinnati, Ohio Journal Entry: Hello All and welcome to my journal. I will be updating you often on this fabulous journey I like to call touring. We are 13 shows in and 36 to go. It seems like a lot, huh? Well, you have no idea. It can be really great and really hard all at the same time. You have your lonely moments, where you miss your family, friends and loved ones but then you also have moments where you get to create new friends and see new and exciting places that you've never seen b4. And that ultimately is what its all about. Well, since I am a month past due on keeping you in the loop I'm going to bring you up to date. When I 1st started the tour it was difficult. I was coming into an environment where everybody was fully acquainted and already adjusted to one another, I was the newcomer. It took a minute b4 I was comfortable with the whole thing. Being that I came from the 1st season and all my friends were off doing something else. It was kind of like deja vu except I hadn't just completed the season I had done it 2 years prior to. I was worried about how everyone would respond to the whole thing, whether it would be weird or go over smoothly. Initially, it was weird for all parties involved, but that only lasted for second. By the Moline show I was getting into the swing of things. Just as I was getting comfortable being on the road I fall on stage. 1st time, ever! and It was in front of a few thousand people. Now when I say "fall" I don’t mean I slipped or it was just a little loss of balance I mean I was eating the stage sliding and all. It was during my first song "star" right at the end when I like to dance a bit more. We were in Moline, Illinois and Im working the right side of the arena and what should happen a "wardrobe malfunction". My shoe gets caught In my jeans and I trip over myself and fall face first onto my stomach and there really was no saving myself. I did manage to play it off though and make it seem like it was part of the act, but the truth is I fell on my butt and I fell HARD. So that was the first incident. The second wardrobe malfunction was the next day when my shirt decides it doesn’t want to stay on. Lucky me. Once again I'm in the middle of my set dancing, last song, and the buckle comes loose. Mind you, there's no one else on stage to help me so I couldn’t possibly do it myself and make it inconspicuous. I have a microphone, and I'm trying to hold my shirt up with my other hand so I couldn't possibly keep singing and fix my shirt all at the same time. So, I had to make an announcement that my shirt had come undone in hopes that my manager, who btw was on the side of the stage, would walk up the steps and help. BUT SHE GETS SCARED AND HAS A SUDDEN CASE OF STAGE FRIGHT. So I'm on my own. Luckily, Maddie, our guitar tech, comes to the rescue. I must say, he wasn’t very knowledgeable on women's clothing but he managed to get it done. Yeah, for Maddie That does it for the first month in terms of interesting events that have taken place on this tour. I must say this past month has been a very interesting and adventurous month. Cant wait to see what this month has in store for me I bet it's going to be pretty outrageous or maybe not. Until next time.
9/23/2004 - Onwards and Upwards Journal Entry: This last week and weekend has been very exciting for me. On Saturday, September 18th I received my very 1st award an Horizon Award from the GA Music Hall of Fame. I am so happy and honored to be recognized and deemed worthy enough of such an honor. The Horizon Award acknowledges new artists who are bound to make a difference in the world of music. I sure hope to accomplish just that in the long term. I am laying down the foundation now. Which would lead to an induction into the GA Music Hall of Fame later on in life and that would mean a huge lifetime accomplishment. To be amongst such great musicians as Ray Charles, TLC and many others from the great state of Georgia. Also, last week began my first episode of "What I Like About You" starring Amanda Bines and Jennie Garth. I am guest starring in two episodes of the series which airs Friday nights at 8pm on the WB. My character is a dancer by the name of Danielle. On the first episode there will be no singing, sorry. But, by the second I get to sing two songs, which I am really excited about. I have yet, to be given the opportunity to sing any of my songs on a tv show, outside of “Raindrops Will Fall” on American Idol, and so I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to introduce some of my music to people who may not be aware that its out in stores or who are familiar with me. So, I'm hoping that this will also help promote the album. I have faith that in due time and through hard work my album will get the exposure, I feel, it deserves. Just a bit of extra information, I am also performing on Maury Povich and Showtime at the Apollo this week. Very, very good news. So, I am working my way back to the tv circuit, which I am happy to be acting again. Its really been too long, I have to say, I do love acting and hope to be doing alot more of it. I'm promoting the album all at the same time. Busy, busy, busy. But that's all a good thing we'd need to worry if I was sitting at home doing nothing. But, that's the complete opposite, Onwards and Upwards I say. It's the beginning of what's going to be a beautiful end of year/ beginning of 2005. Holla back in a few............
MY BIG SCREEN DEBUT! Journal Entry: ............. So after "Bombay Dreams" I went away to Bali, Indonesia. Considering I had been working nonstop since the "Idols" tour in the summer it was time for me to go away on vacation and I had the most amazing time, ever. Bali, was a spiritual regrouping for me. I was absolutely exhausted after Bombay Dreams and I needed to get my mind refocused for the year ahead being NOW. As soon as, I came back from Bali there was a script waiting for me to read for a movie that was being released this fall "The Gospel." "The Gospel", I think it would be categorized as a drama/musical. Its about a man named David (played by Boris Kodjoe) who starts out his life interested in becoming a minister like his father (played by Clifton Powell). When his mother dies of unexplainable circumstances he blames his father for not taking care of the family and being more concerned with church business. He then turns his back on the church and becomes a major R&B star. It isn't until his father becomes ill that he returns home to deal with his demons. When he gets back home he runs into his childhood best friend who is now a minister "Frank" ( played by Idris Elba) and the story then escalates into His family's issues, along with David's issues with jealousy. Along the way he meets a girl named Rain (ME) who becomes his love interest and then her story and where he fits into it. So the whole story then becomes a mission to finding oneself and realizing what's important in life. "The Gospel" also stars; Omar Gooding (who plays David's manager), Nona Gaye (who plays Reverend Frank's wife) and a host of other major characters from both the Gospel recording industry and tv/film. I had the best time on the set of my first movie. Every single person on the cast was both amazing as a talent as well as a person. I feel so incredibly blessed to have been allowed to work on sets and projects that hire great people. I know you hear me say this often and I'm not trying to be cliche or sound like somebody who always looks to the good of a person, although I do that, I'm just so thankful to have been given those opportunities. I can't wait for the film to be released. Its supposed to be released in the fall so look for it. MY BIG SCREEN DEBUT! ............. Exciting new project to be announced next week.
