Soundgarden achieved their greatest commercial success with their 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard charts.

Prominent Seattle DJ Jonathan Poneman was impressed after seeing Soundgarden perform one night, later saying, "I saw this band that was everything rock music should be."

Soundgarden took their name from a wind-channeling pipe structure called The Sound Garden, that was located in Magnuson Park in Seattle.

Chris Cornell originally played drums, but switched to Vocals/Guitar when Scott Sundquist joined the band in 1985.
