The actual experiences of New York City subway riders are dramatized in a collection of 10 intriguing and very different vignettes. The tales showcase an ensemble of familiar faces, and range from stories of compassion and love to reflections on violence and loss. Among them: a disabled beggar (Denis Leary) quarrels with a woman (Christine Lahti) and ruins her shoes with his wheelchair, provoking onlookers to wrath and pity; a skittish tourist (Bonnie Hunt) proves to be her own worst enemy; a newlywed (Mike McGlone) trysts with a mysterious sexpot (Rosie Perez); a commuter (Gregory Hines) helplessly witnesses a suicide attempt; and, in the most affecting segment, a young woman (Taral Hicks) grieves over her mother's imminent death.

Martial arts legend Huo Yuanjia became the most famous fighter in all of China at the turn of the 20th Century. Returning to Tianjin, Huo takes steps to come to terms with his past and restore his family's name. His evolving, graceful Mizong (Missing) Fist method of fighting brings Huo renewed success, and he forms the progressive Jingwu Sports Federation. Taking note, duplicitous members of the Foreign Chamber of Commerce engineer a Shanghai tournament pitting Huo against four fighters, each representing the major foreign powers in China. Huo commits to the bout and faces off against, respectively, a British boxer, a Spanish swordsman, a Belgian soldier, and a Japanese martial artist. What happened that day in 1910 has never been, and will never be, forgotten in China.

Adam and Caroline are very happy together but the rapists try to get back at Adam and not everyone accepts an outcast like Adam.

New York - An immigrant cab driver is continually lost in a city and culture he doesn't understand. Paris - A blind girl takes a ride with a cab driver from the Ivory Coast and they talk about life and blindness. Rome - A gregarious cabbie picks up an ailing man and virtually talks him to death. Helsinki - an industrial worker gets laid off and he and his compatriots discuss the bleakness and unfairness of love and life and death.
