Q: Do you have groupies banging on your trailer door after concerts in Australia? Ronn: Yeah, there’s that part of it. But what can I say? How much into that do we want to get into here? [laughs]. Let’s not go there!
Ronn: I think my kids would thoroughly enjoy being in Australia with me. It would be a little difficult because their mum lives somewhere else and we would have to work all that out, but it’s something I’ve thought about because I like it here. I was never just saying that, in fact, I’m getting tired of saying it because the more I do, the more people think I’m bullshitting!
Q: You made an ad for Aussie orange juice, where you made fun of the Australian accent. How hard did you work on that? Ronn: Obviously not very much! That was the point of it. I kept thinking that if I came across with a perfect Aussie accent, it wouldn’t sound unusual to your ear and you’d go, “Yeah, so what’s the joke?” It wasn’t supposed to be great so I just didn’t work on it to begin with. Everyone was trying to coach me to no avail! It was a fun shoot and believe it or not, it’s a great product. I wouldn’t associate myself with some crap product that I have no affinity for. We should be making another ad soon too.
Ronn: (why he starts his concert tours in Australia) It’s always been a pleasure to come here - I knew I would be among friends. It’s been really great playing here, thankfully, which is why I felt so comfortable starting this tour in Australia again, as I did three years ago.
Ronn: (concert tours and the rock and roll lifestyle) It’s especially hard when I’m on the road with the band doing my concert tour, because everything goes to hell when you’re on the road. All the willpower has to come into play and you have to make choices: do I stay out all night and cavort with the band, or do I go home and go to bed? It’s usually the first!
Ronn: (when asked if there have been storylines on B&B he just didn‘t want to do) We had the one with Ridge and Bridget. It was a bit dicey getting into that territory being that I had delivered her in the cabin when she was born. Then I thought she was my daughter, then I found out she was my half-sister, and then it turned into a romantic thing when she grew up in just a couple of years.
Ronn: (when asked if people treat him as his B&B character, Ridge Forrester) Oh yeah, they call the studio switchboard constantly and ask for the characters. We have a poor lady whose job it is to convince them we’re actors and we’re busy at work right now! And they ask for bizarre stuff - we aren’t even told the weird things that the crazed fans ask for.
Ronn: My 12-year-old is already going on 17. I thought I was going to be spared a couple more years, but it’s started already. The other day I got, ‘Dad, I’m not a kid any more!’ But I’m there with her. I’m a very hands-on dad. I like being with them as much as possible. I’m happiest at home barbecuing with my girls.
Ronn: (on writing a tell-all book) There would be a hell of a lot to tell. But I’d never do it because I don’t need to do that. It’s just not something that is in my psyche. I have been videoing behind the scenes of our show for 20 years. I’ve got so much footage that I will eventually make into a documentary on the history of our show. But everyone who’s on it trusts me to edit out the hissy fits. I’ve got some funny stuff. Behind the scenes is a whole other soap opera!
Ronn: (on why soap ratings have taken a dive worldwide) It’s the amount of product out there. The amount of channels on cable now, it disperses it for everybody. The market is flooded with choices., so everyone’s ratings go down. It’s all just quick images now, and we’re getting used to that kind of diet from TV. We’re always going to have our diehard fans, though.
Ronn: (on creepy fan experiences) I’ve had my share, but 99% of the fans have been great. I’ve been really lucky. There are worse things in life than signing autographs. But you do get weird stuff, because people come to know you through being in their living room every day. In Italy I’ve everybody’s second son. All the grandmothers come up and pinch my cheek.
Ronn: (on going on tour) I like being on tour. It gives me a chance to get out of those damn four walls I’m in most of my life and see the light of the day. It’s cool being able to play live, and I don’t get the chance to unless I make the opportunity.
In 2006, Ronn featured in a television commercial for 'Berri', an Australian orange juice producer. The punch line of the advertisement was "you can tell when it's not all Aussie"; a line intended to show (in jest) that while Ronn has long standing connections with Australia, his Hollywood career has resulted in his persona differing significantly from that of the clich? Australian male.
