Ricardo Antonio Chavira (on the birth of his son): The birth of my son completely changed me for the better," he said. "He made me realize I wasn't the most important thing out there. I still sometimes get angry, but it's different now that I'm a parent. I've learned it's just wasted energy.
Ricardo Antonio Chavira (on the connectivity of Desperate Housewives): It's like the band that comes out with first album and the first album rocks and now it's the sophomore year. I have a sneaky suspicion that that could happen with us because when you start out of the gate that strong, you have nowhere to go but down. Hopefully that doesn't happen. That's why we're about to shoot a new episode and we still don't have a script or schedule because the writers are being meticulous and trying to put out the best product possible.
Ricardo Antonio Chavira (on his on-screen wife’s affair on Desperate Housewives): Latin women are like, 'Shame on Gabrielle for doing what she's doing. She doesn't know what she's missing!' The men are all, 'Hey, you know your wife's sleeping with your gardener?' And I'm like, 'No s--t, guys.'
Ricardo (on the off-screen relationships with the Desperate Housewives cast): Eva and I get along great. We work together 90, 95 per cent of the time. The other five or 10 per cent, I run into the other women in hair or make-up or passing in the corridors moving from one scene to the next and when I work with them, they're nice and charming and sweet with me.
Ricardo Antonio Chavira:You know, she and I get along very well. We're both from south Texas and the chemistry just kind of existed naturally. You know, I just feel very blessed.(talking about his costar on Desperate Housewives Eva Longoria)
Ricardo Antonio Chavira: The show is no longer on, but the father from 'Everybody Loves Raymond.' God, that is a good character. He has all those nice zingers and it is all effortless. Peter Boyle is a wonderful actor. I had the opportunity to meet him and he is a real gentleman.(talking about a character he'd like to be one day)
Ricardo Antonio Chavira:I didn't realize that people were going to react so strongly to the plot about Carlos tampering with Gabrielle's birth control. I put the fear of God into women around the world. You hear stories about women who stop taking it and then the husbend get blindsided, so I think it's hilarious that it's reversing the perspective.
Ricardo Antonio Chavira:When the cable guy first comes in the house he makes a comment about the candles Gavrielle is burning. It was a little tip off for later when he turns out to be gay. It's really nice the way the writers plant stuff like that. It's really subtle. They're not slapping you in the face with, "Here's our gay cable guy," but you pick up on something there.(talking about one scene on Desperate Housewives)
Ricardo Antonio Chavira:On monday mornings at work people talk about the show and it sparks communication between the sexes. It makes for a better relationship. Maybe the guy really wants to have a baby and the woman's not sure. And then that birth comtrol scene pops up. What kind of conversation happens on that couch? I bet woman who saw that picked a whole new place to keep their birth control.(talking about desperate housewives)
Ricardo Antonio Chavira:I had a darker, more macho side when I was younger. From ages 18 to 21 that was pretty much the face that I wore whenever I interacted with the world. Now that I'm older I don't do that. Especially with the birth of my son, I try to make things work out.
Ricardo Antonio Chavira:There was so much that appealed to me about the pilot. Number one, you've got Latinos and they're the richest family on the block. But they don't beat you over the head with the fact that the Solises are Latino. They could have been any race.(talking about his character on Desperate Housewives)
