Mark Hamill was cast as the villain Mike Hawkins in the Swedish production Hamilton, directed by Harald Zwart. He co-starred with Peter Stormare and Lena Olin in this TV movie.

Hamill was orginally cast as David Bradford on the TV series Eight is Enough. He asked to be released from his contract before Star Wars was released; sensing the movie was going to be a success, he wanted to focus on his movie career.

He starred with Linda Blair in the tv-movie Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic.

Mark was a guest at the Dark Horse Comic Con the second year it held an art auction to benefit the Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The con actually began with many of the guests, Mark included, visiting patients in the hospital. The halls reverberated with the sound of the Joker's maniacal laugh. Mark later gave a talk at the con, and an announcement was made that he was donating his appearance fee to the ongoing fundraising to build a new hospital. When the new hospital opened, Mark again paid a visit, spending the day visiting with the young patients.

Over the past few years, Mark and his family have become involved with Children Helping Poor and Homeless Children. This includes helping with the ongoing collection of items donated and participating in special fund-raisers, a celebrity mini golf tournament being one of them.

A Saturday morning session at the Mayfair Theatre complex, and an afternoon session at a local Blockbuster Video enabled the Milwaukee branch to sponsor the wishes of two seriously ill children, along with their families, with a good start for a third child's. The afternoon session, scheduled to start at 2 pm, had fans lining up in sub-zero weather, from 8 am that morning.
