Lupe won a Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize for Acting Real Women Have Curves in 2002 and a National Board of Review Best Supporting Actress Chuck & Buck in 2000. Lupe was also nominated for an Emmy from her work on Desperate Housewives.
Not only did Lupe play Claire in 2006's Universal Signs, but she also helped produce it.
Lupe has been in many TV movies including Testing Bob (2005) as the secretery, A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story (2006) as Mami, and Mr. St. Nick (2002) as Tia Sophia.
Lupe is only 4' 11".

She is best known in the Latino community for her portrayal of Yolanda Saldivar, the murderer of Selena in the movie Selena, and to Anglo audiences as the housekeeper on The Goonies.
Lupe has three sons.
Her trademark is playing housekeepers and maids.
