While growing up she dreamed of being a teacher.
She has over 20 years information and process computer system experience in the consulting, manufacturing and nuclear utility industries.
At an early age she fell in love with cats.
In 1986, her friend, Bill Sherwood, wrote the film, Parting Glance, and cast Kinney in the movie. That opportunity led to other job offers.
Her parents are Marian and Harold Kinney.
In 1976 Kathy Kinney moved from Stevens Point, Wisconsin to New York City.
Her first pet was a cat. It's name was Felix.
She began her career in New York City when she started performing improv at local comedy clubs.
Her big break came in 1986 when she starred in Parting Glances, a film that would later be recognized as Best Film at the USA Film Festival that same year.
