Josh Hutcherson: I believe in love at first sight. It's one of those things you really don't know; it just happens.
Michelle Hutcherson: (about her son Josh) We work hard to keep his life as normal as it can be. He doesn't get to just go out and buy things. His three big purchases--a dirt bike, a laptop and a gas powered motor scooter--have been spread out over 18 months. Every kid around here has a motorized scooter, but he was the last kid to get one in our subdivision. We didn't let him at first. He kept working hard, and doing chores around here, so we decided to let him get one. We give him as normal of a life that we can. We let him be a kid. That's what a lot of people say to me-- he's so professional, yet he's still a kid. And I think that's because we let him be a kid.
Michelle Hutcherson: (Josh's mother) He bugged us so much. He wanted to do it. I have no clue why. We just thought, "He's a kid, he doesn't know what he wants." And finally, he just pushed and pushed enough that I said I'd look into it. And I did. And this is where it went, all of a sudden. Chris Hutcherson: (Josh's father) Ever since he's been little, he's liked to perform for people. He has a personality that attracts people's attention. He does have talent. And it's part of a parent's responsibility--if your child wants to do something, support him whenever you can.
Gabor Csupo: (director of "Bridge to Terabithia," about Josh's emotional crying scene with Robert Patrick in the film) This scene is, again, amazing because I think we shot it only twice, and both times, those tears coming out of Joshua's eyes......they're real teardrops. It's not like we had to physically put them in there with the drop help, or CGI, or anything. These are his real tears. He really melted into this performance so deeply, that even his mom, on the set, was amazed by his performance. And she was saying, "I just don't know how he can do this. What was he thinking about?" He did, you know.....such an amazing emotional job on it.
Josh Hutcherson: (about his fans) They mean the world to me. Without the fans, I wouldn't have a job. When people hire you for a movie, they want to hire you because you're going to bring an audience to their film. If I didn't have people out there who enjoyed watching me as an actor, I wouldn't get hired. Nobody would want to see the movie!
Josh Hutcherson: I've learned a lot throughout the years that I've worked with all these great actors and everything. One of the biggest things I've learned on every shoot is patience. It takes so much patience to be an actor. There will be days when you'll come in at 6 in the morning, and you'll sit around all day long and maybe only do one shot. You just have to bear with them. You just have to keep your head on straight during that time. You can't get lazy or tired. You have to really make sure that you stay in character, even when you have those long days.
Josh Hutcherson: (about being an actor) It's not all glamour. I learned that right away. I thought getting into acting would be a breeze, and nice and easy. I thought, "How hard could it be?" I've done 11 movies now [as of 2007], and I've learned that every single character has different challenges. On set, it's not all fun and games. I have to do school and work long hours on set, as well. All that stuff kind of combines together. It's not as easy as it seems. That was the biggest shocker to me.
Josh: I love New Zealand! There's a big volcano, and the sunrise is beautiful.
Josh Hutcherson: Hannah and Danno were my imaginary friends. I used to play with them all the time, talk to them. She was pink, and he was blue. When I couldn't play with my real friends, they were always around. When I was young, probably like three or four, we'd sing Barney songs together--as embarrassing as that is!
Josh Hutcherson: (about some rapping that he did for a special feature on the "RV" DVD) Well, actually, the rapping came before the acting. Only by a month or so. It's a long story, but the short end is that when I was around 9, I think, I opened for the boy band O-town. Well not all by myself, but, with Rich Cronin (lead singer for LFO). I did, like, two rap songs with him on stage in front of a few thousand people. It was awesome, but I think I'll stick with acting!
Josh Hutcherson: (about "Bridge to Terabithia" director Gabor Csupo) Gabor is so awesome. He has the biggest heart of any director I think I have ever worked with, and he is just so caring; he's so nice.
Mark Levin: (director of "Little Manhattan") Josh is so game for anything that you put in front of him, and he's got an amazing acting style, which is that he just is "Johnny on the spot." You just say "Hit that window," and he says "How hard?" And he does it again and again. And he enjoys it, he's just having fun.....it's just kind of indicative of his incredible commitment.
Cynthia Nixon: (Josh's on-screen mother in "Little Manhattan") Sometimes you just run across kids who are so grown-up. Josh is cute, but he is also smart and makes good choices.
Josh Hutcherson: Yeah, that's what I love doing. I love doing roles and movies that are different from each other. That's kind of why I like to be an actor, because I get to play different characters and pretend I'm different people going through different situations. Getting to do different genres of movies means you're gonna have different types of situations and stuff like that. So I want to try and do every type of genre there is out there.
Josh Hutcherson: (when asked why he was attracted to the script for "Firehouse Dog") For some reason, it had such a great feel to me. It was unlike any other dog movie, because it had such a cool storyline. It was so different than any other dog movie I had ever seen and ever heard of. That's what really attracted me to it is that it was so unique.
Josh Hutcherson: I love what I do, and I can't imagine ever wanting to do anything else, except maybe direct. So, as long as I am able to, I want to keep acting.
Josh Hutcherson: Imagination is an important part of everybody's life. With today's kids, imagination is lost because kids play so many video games, and it's bad for that. My little brother plays a lot, and I was always outside playing Army, rolling around on the ground, playing with squirt guns and playing kickball. I think kids need to do that more often.
Josh Hutcherson: I got a lot of crap from kids in school when I first started acting. I didn't understand that, because it was something I loved doing, but I learned that you just don't let it bother you. I didn't understand what they were laughing about. I just ignored it.
Josh Hutcherson: (when asked about his favorite movie that he has filmed) That's really hard because I've really liked each of them for a different reason. All around, probably Zathura. That was awesome because of all the stunts and cool ways that they filmed it. They used 3 different sets. One shook like a 9.2 earthquake, one tilted at a 45 degree angle, and the other was still. Also, it was all in the same place so once we got there, we got to do cool stuff with the trailer for Halloween and Christmas and stuff like that. It was a lot of fun.
Mark Levin: (co-director of "Little Manhattan," about Josh's audition) Josh was the first kid we met at the reading, and he so blew everyone away at the reading that he...... Jennifer Flackett: (second director) He made it impossible for them to say no.
Josh: I like my hair much better long.
Josh: Filming Zathura was the best experience of my whole life.
Josh: I have a little brother and I understand how Danny got on his nerves.
In the commentary that Josh did with co-star AnnaSophia Robb, and film producer Lauren Levine for the film Bridge to Terabithia, he acknowledged that he was not too thrilled with his wardrobe for the movie. Some scenes called for his character to walk around with a sweatshirt tied around his waist, which Josh says made him look like he was wearing a kilt. Josh was also wary about the crown he had to wear in the final scene. "I looked like some sort of monk or something," he has said.

While reading the original book and script for Bridge to Terabithia, Josh was initially against being a part of the movie, because he didn't like how the Jess character treated his younger sister May Belle throughout most of the story. Josh felt that the character was being so cruel to a little girl that hadn't even done anything wrong, and this really put Josh off at first. Josh got along really well with Bailee Madison (May Belle) during filming, and he has even admitted that she is like a little sister to him, so it was difficult for him to be mean to her for certain scenes.
