In 1991 Grant graduated from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Arts with a degree in Performing Arts (Acting)
His first child, a daughter named Edie Bowler, was born in 2003.
Grant also had a major role in the long-running Australian medical drama All Saints, where he played the part of Nigel 'Mac' MacPherson, a role he played for 20 episodes.
He is also the host of the surprisingly popular Border Security: Australia's Front Line, which tops the weekly viewer ratings almost every week.
In July 2006, he stated that he would like to return as host of The Mole, which is rumoured to make a return, following the many complaints against his replacement.
Grant was also in a few notable appearances in the Australian police drama Stingers.
Starred in the Australian series Something In The Air for one of its three seasons.
The year 2000 saw him starring in the television-remake disaster movie On The Beach.
After leaving Pacific Drive, he joined the cast of Medivac, where he spent two and a half years
Grant's first role on television was that of Constable Wayne Patterson on Blue Heelers, from 1994 to 1996.
