Gary was inducted into the New York Mets' Team Hall of Fame in 2001.
Gary was voted the National League Player of the Month in September 1980, as well as September 1985.
Gary's number (8) was retired by the Expos. However, when the team moved to Washington before the 2005 season, the number was unretired and given to another player.
