Fanny Ardant: A compliment is like perfume. You put it on, it smells a little, it pleases you and then you get used to it and it doesn’t smell at all to you, only others can smell it until it gets evaporated so no one can smell it anymore. An insult or a curse, unfair as it may be, is like a light showing us in the darkness what we should have done. So it helps more. It’s strange.
Fanny Ardant: I never did something for the money. It is my only luxury, I do not have a house, I do not have anything. But I have my freedom.
Fanny Ardant: You can have a great passion for something inside of you and not know how to achieve it. But it's true that if you have the passion to write within you, then you just write. And you may love to go to the theatre and you may want to be on the other side of the fence, but not visualize immediately how to get there; and it was my case... The day I understood what I had to do, I didn't think more about it. I did it.
Fanny Ardant: The making of a film is not like being in a television production. It lasts only two months and it’s very intense. There’s a beginning, a middle and an end, so if there is a phenomenon like a big vacation, you have to make the most of it, because you know that you will not meet these people again. It’s not like in an office where you go every day and see the same faces. So there was a joy that was sort of fleeting, which one has to take good advantage.
Fanny Ardant: I always dreamed of being an actress because I loved words and I loved the theater, poetic language. As a girl, whenever I read a beautiful passage in a book I would run to my sister and read it to her. It is the feeling that you have to share the beautiful with someone else.
Fanny Ardant is quite shy, values her privacy, and does not like social parties and/or gatherings.
Fanny Ardant has three daughters - Lumir, Jos?phine and Baladine - each fathered by different men.
