(about producer Darryl F. Zanuck) Don Ameche: Zanuck never did anything but be nice to me. Oh yeah, maybe he chased Alice Faye around, but a lot of people chased Alice Faye around.
Don served as a ringmaster on the NBC show International Showcase, which traveled worldwide introducing different circus and magic acts every week, from 1961 to 1965.
Don appeared with Mae West on "The Chase and Sanborn Hour" on Dec. 12, 1937, in a Hollywood radio studio, in which they did a comic takeoff on Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Mae's burlesque delivery of her lines and ad-libs caused a nationwide uproar and condemnation from the FCC. West was not allowed to perform on radio after this and Don's career was jeopardized by this.
Don and his wife Honore had six children; Ronald, Dominic, Thomas, Lonnie, Bonnie and Connie.
Don was married to Honore Prendergast from 1932 until her death in 1986.
Don co-starred with Zsa Zsa Gabor in the campy horror film Picture Mommy Dead (1966).
Don was inducted into the Radio Hall Of Fame in 1992.
Don won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Cocoon (1985).
Don has a Television star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6101 Hollywood Boulevard, and a radio star at 6313 Hollywood Boulevard.
