Darren: I try to live my life where I end up at a point where I have no regrets. So I try to choose the road that I have the most passion on because then you can never really blame yourself for making the wrong choices. You can always say you're following your passion.
Darren: There's always been a lot of pressure and tension on the line. If Pi (1998) didn't work out, I have no idea what my career would be. I don't think I would have gotten another shot at it. If Requiem for a Dream (2000) didn't work out, they would have called me a 'one-hit wonder with a sophomore slump'.
Darren: (on working with Hugh Jackman) It just blew me away, I just saw so much charisma and talent. We just had a blast together, he completely surrendered to the character. I've never seen anyone work that hard and be that committed. And the way he treats people ... the fact he treated a PA the same way he treated me, that's who he is.
Darren: (on not giving up on making “The Fountain“) I tried to get it out of my system and come up with another project. One night I woke up and just knew I had to get the film back and even though it would be super hard to remount it, I knew there had to be a way. So I went back to my no-budget, independent filmmaking roots of just trying to do something with nothing.
Darren’s first feature film was Pi. He commenced work on it in 1996, with it being released two years later in 1998.
As a teenager, Darren used to express himself with graffiti art.
Darren attended Harvard University.
Darren and his fianc?, actress Rachel Weisz, have one child together. Their son, Henry Chance, was born on May 31st, 2006.
