Chuck sold his created company Barris Industries in 1986.

Chuck married Lyn Levy who is a niece of a founder of CBS. Lyn Levy was then disinherited by her family shortly after the two were married. They divorced in 1976.

Chuck was portrayed by Sam Rockwell, in the movie adaptation of his book Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

Chuck is the nephew of songwriter Harry Barris.

Chuck said in his book Confessions of a Dangerous Mind that he worked for the CIA as an assassin during the 1960's and 1970's. In interviews since the book was published, he usually answers questions about this by saying "I can't really confirm or deny it". The CIA has denied Chuck Barris ever working for them.
