North by Northwest A New York advertising executive named Roger Thornhill is mistaken for George Kaplan, an imaginary agent the CIA invented in order to smoke out enemy spies, and is kidnapped by the enemy. He manages to escape, and fails to convince the police and his mother he had been kidnapped. He is then accused of killing a UN diplomat and escapes on a train headed for Chicago. On board, he meets Eve Kendall who works for the enemy. He is told he can meet the real Kaplan (a ploy by the enemy) in a cornfield in Illinois. There he is attacked by a crop-dusting biplane. He makes it back to Chicago and finds Eve and her spy-lover, Vandamm at an art auction. He escapes their clutches by getting arrested for disturbing the peace and is taken to the airport where the CIA project director explains what is going on; that is, that there is no spy named Kaplan and that Kendall is a double agent. Grant agrees to play out the role of the spy in order to protect Eve. What follows is in incredible chase scene across the Mount Rushmore monument.
