Anthony: (confirming to media that he is gay) Yes, I am gay. I have no issue with my sexuality now, but it's taken time to become confident with who I am and happy with who I am…. I don't think it's a big issue. Who cares? This might create a bit of gossip around the water cooler but apart from that I don't think it's a major thing. If people have an issue with it, it's their issue. It shouldn't really be relevant to me being a singer and a performer.
Anthony: (on supporting Pavarotti) I met him in Perth and they asked me to sing for him. You don’t get asked every day to sing for Pavarotti! I had a quick chat with him afterwards and he was really supportive. He said, ‘You sound great. Good luck.’ So it was really cool.
Anthony: (on his fans) It’s great to have that fan base! I constantly jump onto the forum (on my own site) and see what they’re gasbagging about and what they want from me. It’s great to get that feedback, and I’m very lucky to have them.
Anthony Callea: (asked if he is a perfectionist) Yeah. And sometimes a bit of a pain in the bum as well! Because I want to make sure it’s right.
Anthony Callea: Music is my life. It's my reason for being. And anyway, I’m crap at everything else!
In March 2007, an intern at the radio station that accidentally outed Anthony was made the scapegoat and sacked from the station, Edge 96.One. While the intern was not involved in the on-air discussion about Anthony and his partner, she was accused of sending an audio file of the conversation to a Sydney newspaper. The intern and the breakfast show’s host were suspended for two days, before the intern was fired. The traffic controller who actually outed Anthony, has had no action taken against him at all.
In November 2006, Anthony bought two new goldfish and asked fans to name them. They are now called Gin and Tonic!
