Amanda first combined her singing and acting abilities on a television show by performing two songs in the Bill Bixby series The Magician in 1973. Parts of the footage of her singing were later incorporated into the opening credits for the show.

Amanda McBroom's award-winning song Errol Flynn honors her father David Bruce, a character actor who played many second roles in Hollywood films (including those of Flynn) in the 1940s and early 1950s.

Amanda began her professional career acting and singing. Her early roles included the Broadway musical Seesaw and the national tour of the show Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris.

Amanda was nominated for an Emmy for the song When Hearts Collide used in As the World Turns.
