Alan: (on "Neighbours", the show that started his career) I didn’t like it there, they were not nice people. They treated us badly, so I don’t owe them anything. They sell it [the show] all over the world, make millions and still not a dollar for us [the actors]. It was just so awful, so I didn’t go back for the 20th anniversary thing.
Alan Dale: (About his interaction with Betty on Ugly Betty) I think they're probably going to spend more time with the intrigue of what happens at the [magazine] and all that sort of stuff, probably. I won't have much to do with her. I mean little bits; I'll have a scene here and there. The episode we're shooting now, I'm with her. But mostly, it's just like I don't even really know that she exists in a way
Alan Dale: (About his happiness with doing his last scene with Melina Clarke in a bikini) Oh Lord, was I! I couldn't actually… She took my breath away. She just looked great. She worked out to do that too. She knew; I think she must have known before I did, because she started to work out quite hard, and all that sort of stuff. And there she was. When she came out in that bikini, my god! It was fabulous, yes. Beautiful.
In the video game Yakuza, Alan voices Masa.
In the second season finale of Lost, Alan played the father of Desmond's girlfriend. Later in the episode, Desmond enters in a race-around-the-world Alan's character was sponsoring. Coincidentally, Desmond's boat is registered in Newport Beach, California, where Caleb Nichol, another of Dale's characters, lived.
Alan still has his Australian accent, but uses an artificial American accent for some roles.
Alan was nominated January 2007 for an Golden Globe along with some of his cast mates from Ugly Betty in the Comedy TV series category.
Alan's has an ex-wife, Claire, with whom he had two children. Their marriage lasted from 1968-1969.
He collects cars. He prefers faster cars then anything.
His son, Matthew Dale is an actor, musician & writer, dividing his time between Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia where he is currently working in the theatre. Simon Dale is a radio announcer in the UK.
